On a flight home from Sydney, I discovered the wonderful tv show “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. I instantly fell in love with her personality, attitudes and of course, her wardrobe. I gasped many a time throughout my on-flight binge at some of her fabulous dresses and knew I had to recreate as many as I could and admire the rest from afar. Luckily, I was contacted again by the vintage reproduction clothing brand, Heart My Closet, who had just designed and created Mrs. Maisel reproductions and asked if I wanted to review them. It was the easiest ‘yes’ I’ve ever made.

As I’ve already reviewed Heart My Closet before, I’ll only quickly recap what they do. This wonderful company specializes in creating custom vintage-inspired dresses and they draw their inspirations from current celebrities, vintage-inspired tv shows, and the pinup style. You generally shop by style and then can customize your dress by choosing which colour you’d prefer and can get the item tailored to your precise measurements. I have quite a collection of their dresses in my wardrobe and I’m forever dreaming about getting more. Recently, Heart My Closet have also caught the Maisel bug and have started creating reproductions and today I will review two of them.

Pleated aline – tri-color vintage inspired dress
This dress was featured in the first season whilst Midge was on the phone; it’s a very colourful and playful dress featuring three colours; a beige/cream bodice, olive waistband and a red pleated skirt. It’s a little it festive but can really be worn all year round. The dress is knee length, has a center back zip and is unlined. The fabric is very soft, comfortable and does not go see-through when worn. The tailoring of this dress is impeccable. It fits me like a glove and is really flattering. The dress is beautifully finished and a spot-on replica of Mrs. Maisels.

 

 

Midge’s Work Dress
This dress was featured in the first season in several episodes when Midge was at work. The dress is made up of a tartan black and green bodice with a button row down the center front and a small double cream bow at the center neckline. The skirt is made up of a dark green panel skirt with an aline fit. I absolutely love this dress and find it very beautiful and flattering. The colours are really stunning and there is so much detail in this dress including cream sleeve rims and a center back invisible zipper.
I can really see this being a beautiful autumn dress especially with the deep green tones present in the dress. The dress is tea length giving it ample room for a petticoat in cooler weather and it would look very cute with boots and a winter hat.

 

 

Final Thoughts
I’ve dreamed of owning Mrs. Maisel’s wardrobe and I am so beyond excited to have that dream come true thanks to Heart My Closet. It’s also nice knowing that any and all dresses available can be changed in both size and colour to suit everyone especially if you want it for a special occasion. Heart My Closet also offer their dresses to be fully lined at an additional cost if you prefer your dresses lined; personally, I find the fabric to be thick and soft enough to not worry about lining. As for price, these dresses hover around the $120 mark which is amazing value for a custom dress made specifically to your measurements. These dresses are unique, one of a kind and not massed produced so you don’t have to worry about wearing the same dress as someone else.
I know every time I wear one of my Heart My Closet dresses, I receive lots of compliments so I always feel good in the dresses. This really is a wonderful company with amazing attention to detail, passion and customer service. If you’re looking for a new wardrobe or a little ‘pick me up’, this is a wonderful way to shop and support a wonderful business.
Besides Mrs. Maisel, Heart My Closet also features dresses from shows such as Mad Men and Agent Carter for those that are keen to get a film inspired wardrobe or are wanting to cosplay their favorite characters. I can’t recommend this company enough and I will continue to support them and shop with them.
