Bettie Page Showgirl Lingerie Review

When it comes to dressing in the vintage style, to get that truly authentic and iconic vintage look, it’s all about foundations. In the 1950’s especially, foundation garments were super important to making clothing look just right. Whenever a baby pinup is struggling to make true vintage sit right on their body, I always recommend looking into foundation garments to work with the clothes and not against them. Bodies evolve and change throughout our lives and of course throughout decades; living in the world today, finding good vintage reproduction isn’t always easy but there are a few hidden gems you simply must know about.

Having trialed and tested a few vintage inspired lingerie brands, I can safely say that one of my go-to companies is Bettie Page Lingerie. Inspired by the iconic pinup herself, Bettie Page Lingerie takes vintage styling, shaping and charm to create unique and oceanic pieces which fit a range of bodies. I love a company which is inclusive and committed to high quality products. I particularly fell in love with Bettie Page Lingerie when I saw the diversity in their models being a range of shapes, sizes, colour and gender diversity. It’s really great to see companies being so open and proud of their support. Today I wanted to share with you some of the latest pieces from Bettie Page Lingerie as distributed from Playful Promises featuring items from their latest ‘showgirl’ collection. Please note: the following items were gifted as part of a collaboration but I am not expected to say or promote anything that isn’t truthful and honest. There are no affiliate links on this page.

Let’s start with the bra; this is the Bettie Page showgirl overwire bra and it is truly a unique piece for any lingerie collector or enthusiast. The cups are wired over the chest, providing a beautiful projected bust effect that’s reminiscent of 1950s silhouettes. The bra isn’t overly pointy so you don’t have to worry about over exaggerated pointy breasts. Circular stitching on the cups gives this bra the ultimate vintage feel and it’s finished with a black satin bow in the centre of the bra. The bra also features detachable and adjustable straps, gold hardware and 3X3 hook and eye’s at the back. This bra is similar to Dita’s Her Sexellency bra which was very popular. I own another of these style bra’s from Bettie Page and they certainly make an impact with the right outfit. I also love these style bra’s if you are shooting a vintage style boudoir as it really adds to that vintage vibe.

I found this bra very comfortable to wear and after a quick adjustment of the straps, I felt supported and enhanced in all the right places. I’ve been having a few body issues of late so I’ve been struggling to maintain a steady body size but this bra really made me feel great about my body just the way it was. If you’re ok with a little cheekiness, this bra would be cute with a sheer top over it, poking out the top of a lower cut dress or just a hidden secret to make you feel a million bucks no matter where you are. According to the website, this bra is made from 97% Polyester 3% Elastane Main 2:100% Polyamide Main 3:76% Nylon 24% Elastane Excluding Trims. It is recommended to hand wash and not tumble dry.

Now, let’s look at bottom coverings. I’m a briefs girl 99% of the time and I love anything that’s high waisted so the Bettie Page Showgirl Z Stitch briefs are perfection! Constructed out of baby pink mesh with a front panel of the showgirl print in the centre, these high waisted panties really give you that 1950’s silhouette and vibe. I think the addition of the black bow is very cute and it matches the bow on the bra. Underwear should be comfortable and there’s nothing worse than underwear that doesn’t fit properly, I ordered the size 10 and found they sat perfectly on my booty, they didn’t ride up or into my butt and they didn’t dig into my inner thighs. The material was comfortable, breathable and looked really smooth and cute. The back of the panties were also made up of sheer mesh which is cute for a little cheeky moment if that’s your thing. According to the website, these briefs are made from mainly 97% Polyester 3% Elastane Main 2 :88% Nylon 12% Elastane Main3:76% Nylon 24% Elastane Gusset Liner: 100% Cotton Excluding Trims.

When it comes to vintage lingerie, give me the full set or nothing at all. Even though I have quite a range of suspenders already, I always have to buy a matching one to whatever set I desire. There’s just something special about matchy matchy underwear, I guess it makes me feel as though my life is more put together than it actually is. The Bettie Page Showgirl 4 strap suspender belt is no exception. Constructed out of baby pink mesh and silky showgirl print, these suspenders pull the whole look together and really allow you to feel like a vintage bombshell. My personal preference for suspenders is either 4 or 6 straps as I find they support the stockings evenly without putting pressure on them. These suspenders sat perfectly on my hips and waist and they never tried to droop, crawl up and shift which made wearing them very comfortable and flattering. I think the little black bow accents are really adorable and all together the set looks wonderful.

Overall, I think the Bettie Page Showgirl collection is truly a great work of art. The soft tones, textures and stylings really make it very feminine and delicate whilst also helping you to become a strong and powerful pinup. I love the unique material featuring the showgirls themselves; it’s a wonderful homage to Bettie Page herself and all the incredible showgirls and performers from history. I am also loving the diversity in depictions in the print itself and look forward to more inclusive imagery from this company and others hopefully soon. Wearing this lingerie set made me feel good about my body despite the issues I am facing with it recently. I haven’t shot in lingerie for a while but this collaboration has definitely made me want to get back into loving my body for all it’s flaws and imperfections.

If you feel like you need a pick-me-up, if you have a lingerie addiction (no judgement), or if you are just wanting to treat yourself, sometimes something a little fancy purchase is the perfect thing. I’ve totally bought myself lingerie as a well deserved treat. You don’t need to wear beautiful lingerie for anyone other than yourself, so I will definitely reach for this beautiful set when I want to give myself a little boost. As a fan of Bettie Page Lingerie for years, I can stand by their quality, their customer service and their ethics. I know I will personally continue supporting them and I look forward to testing out some of their swimwear soon!

What a lovely post and your pictures are fantastic! I prefer 4 to 6 straps as well in suspender belts as well. If you don’t mind my asking did you feel that the bra was just as supportive without the detachable straps?

Thank you so much! Because the bra had a wide band I felt pretty well supported throughout the day but I only wore it strapless for about 4 hours. I just find straps comfy :/ hope this helps!
