Easy No-Sew Embroidered Monogram Stockings

Originally being scooped out of a ‘end of season’ sales bin, I’ve had my Christmas stockings for a few years and I still absolutely love them. They may not be overly decorated or festive, but they work well in our home and the colours are cute and soothing. Last year, I wanted to find a way to personalise them a little more which is what brings us to today’s post. Today I am sharing with you the quickest and easiest way to create personalized monogram Christmas stockings.

Remember back to this project? Well when I was shopping for the iron on patches, I was suggested these iron-on letters which triggered this whole project. These gold embroidered letters looked to be the perfect size and had a lovely font (I wasn’t a fan of the super chunky Varsity fonts that are more popular). I figured that even if they turned out to not be as great as the listing made them look, I could use them for another idea I had. They arrived quite quick and I was pleasantly surprised by how cute they were. This project was a go.

Turn your iron onto a medium heat and remove any water as you don’t want steam.
Place your Christmas stocking on your ironing board and make sure it’s sitting flat and wrinkle free.
Place your iron on letter, right side facing up (unless yours comes with instructions to do otherwise, please listen to that over me) exactly where you want it.

Gently place your iron onto the letter and hold for a few seconds.
Lift your iron for a few seconds, before gently placing it on the letter a second time. Use gentle circle motions to avoid the iron on melting.
Once your letter is adhered, let your stocking cool down.

Yeah I know it’s nothing revolutionary to iron on an embroidery patch, but it feels that every year we are pushed really hard by companies to keep buying something new and bigger and better. Using what we already have and altering it to better fit our needs is always a better way to go. This simple tutorial can give your old Christmas stockings some new life and of course, this idea can be absolutely expanded to and maybe include full words or names and extra festive decoration and trim. If there’s nothing wrong with what we already have, then let’s not feel pressured to replace them. Even though I had to order some embroidery letters, they changed the look of my stockings and brought me so much joy.

Note: it’s also fun to arrange the stockings to try and spell silly sounding words. Try it with your family; pets included of course, who do you think the ‘B’ stocking is for?
