Flock Boutique Bali – Review

Back in early November, I visited Bali on a quick little anniversary trip and during a shopping trip, I stumbled upon a cute little local boutique in Ubud who definitely deserved their own blog post. Shopping in Bali is incredible as there’s something to fit all kinds of styles and budgets. As tempting as some of the local markets are (and you should go check them out), I’d recommend keeping an eye out for local boutiques as thats where you can really find some stunning gems. These little boutiques have the most friendly and passionate staff, some of which even make the clothes you are trying on.

Flock Boutique isn’t just a store; it’s a love letter to Bali, a testament to the island’s rich culture, and a celebration of local artisans. Nestled in the heart of Ubud, this bohemian haven offers a unique shopping experience, blending traditional Balinese aesthetics with contemporary style.

A Little Boutique with a Big Passion for Bali

Founded by Dewi and Sandro, Flock Boutique was born from a deep-rooted love for Bali and its people. The founders were inspired by the island’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and the warmth of its people. They envisioned a space where travelers could connect with the authentic Bali, and where local artisans could showcase their talents to the world. At the core of Flock Boutique’s philosophy is a commitment to supporting local artisans and sustainable practices. Each piece in the store tells a story, reflecting the dedication and skill of Balinese craftsmen. From intricately woven textiles to handcrafted jewelry, every item is a masterpiece, imbued with the spirit of the island.

The store’s bohemian aesthetic, with its eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures, creates a truly magical atmosphere. As you wander through the shop, you’ll discover a curated selection of clothing, accessories, and some of the friendliest staff on the island. During my shopping experience, I was kindly offered assistance and honest opinions on the pieces I was trying. I was also offered the chance to have items made or customised for me which I thought was pretty incredible. There is a small changing room in the store but there is no air con, which wasn’t really a big deal.

After trying on several pieces I settled on a cute blue cotton set including shorts and a multi-way tie up top. I managed to wear this ensamble on the island throughout my stay and it was super comfortable and cool given the humidity at the time. I found the quality to be really high with all seams and stitches well enforced and lined. I loved the stretchyness of the top and how comfortable the shorts were.
With the top, I also was shown how to tie it in 4 different ways but after playing with the ties, we were also able to come up with more tie up options. I love when a garment offers a multitude of wearing options and seeing how I can adjust this top, it can be made to look different no matter how much I wear it.
For me personally, I loved how I could easily style these pieces in a retro inspired way and also that there was so much to choose from. There was another cute green mini dress but unfortunately it was a little too open around the bust for me to move about freely.

Boutique stores such as Flock Boutique don’t have the same low prices as items in local markets. Although local markets are a treasure trove of shopping at bargain prices, I personally love finding local boutiques that care about local crafts and design so although these pieces cost more than a few dollars, I am so happy I invested in them. In saying that, I honestly do not remember the exact price of these items but I think it was around $ 30 AUD for the top and about the same for the shorts. Due to the quality of these pieces, I know I’ll be able to wear them so many more times than cheaper-made garments. Having worn this set a few times, I really do think it is priced well for what you are getting.
