This year, I’ve set myself a few sewing/crafting goals; one of which is to complete a few abandoned projects. In a box somewhere in my garage, I have a graveyard of incomplete projects as well as parts of broken items that need to be fixed which leads me to today’s post. In the box is an old door wreath from what I believe was an old Halloween wreath which I plan to strip and turn into a cute Valentine’s Day door wreath based upon this style we made a little while ago for Halloween.
The old wreath in question is from this original project I made several years ago. I still love this tiny pumpkin wreath but have found that over the years the hot glue has let go and it was time for a full refresh. As the foam base of the wreath isn’t damaged, it’s perfect to use for another projects and I’m sure the tiny pumpkins will be used for something further down the line. So, let’s get started!
Materials:
-Foam Wreath (mine was 13″)
-Acrylic Paint
–Red Pom Poms (3 packets)
–Pink Pom Poms (3 packets)
-Cream Pom Poms (3 packets)
-Hot Glue
-Hot glue gun
-Any extra decorations you’d like
Note: My wreath frame measures around 13″ in diameter. I used three packs of each colour of pom pom and had a little left over. My chosen size of pom pom was the 25mm which came in bags of 36.
Steps:
-To get started, I needed to get my wreath base clean so I went ahead and removed everything that was stuck to it. The tiny pumpkins basically popped off without much issue and I was lucky that they didn’t damage the wreath but hot glue spots were left behind.
Once clean, I gave her a coat of pink acrylic paint. I painted straight over the left over blobs of hot glue as they won’t be seen once the pom poms get stuck all over the wreath (any attempts to remove the glue just resulted in damage to the wreath foam).

-Once the paint is fully dry (i left it in the sun for an hour), using hot glue, I very slowly started gluing my coloured pom poms onto my wreath starting with a stripe across the wreath and then building out slowly layer by layer. I took my time keeping the colours as random as I could but I tried really hard not to over think it. With only three colours, it’s not easy to get the best scattering but overall, I was super happy.

-The wreath is done!
This is one of those projects that is super simple and straightforward, it’s just a little time consuming. Overall, it took me about 2 hours to cover my wreath with pom poms but I did have the go get more hot glue as I ran out towards the end. For my own crafting amusement, I gathered a small group of friends and hosted a girly crafternoon which was super fun and cute. We all did different crafts and got to enjoy some laughs, chats and snacks along the way.
Once my wreath was completely covered with pom poms, I felt it needed a little something extra but I could not decide what. I grappled over felt conversation hearts, cute retro Valentine’s day greet card inspired imagery (I could make from felt) or even adding some cute figure/toy but I had nothing on hand and was feeling a bit overwhelmed with ideas. In the end, I just added an old Erstwilder brooch from an old Valentine’s Day collection and she’s good for now. Ideally, maybe next year, I will add something to my Valentine’s wreath but I didn’t want to just smack on anything and there is hope that I will find something amazing for it when the time is right. For now, she’s perfect!

Ever since I made a pom pom wreath for Halloween, I knew that very soon, another holiday would also get a pom pom wreath. By recycling most of an old wreath, I am so glad that I got to create this Valentine’s Day inspired pom pom wreath. Having most of the materials already in my possession (I just needed some red pom poms), for me this was a great budget craft but even starting from scratch, it can be made super budget friendly depending on where you get your supplies.
I made this wreath during a girls crafternoon and I really enjoyed having something simple to do whilst chatting and catching up with friends. This wreath turned out super cute and I love having something fun to put on the door for Valentine’s Day and the month of February.

This year, I hope to access the project graveyard several times and shrink down what is hiding inside. This was an amazing first project to get started as it was simple, fun and I had most of what I needed on hand. The project graveyard in itself has become the project in an attempt to use what I have, finish things off and make time to fix, repair or upcycle. The next project has already been chosen and is underway which makes me keen to keep chipping away at older projects. Come along for the crafting adventure!
