Crafting a Magical Disney Cruise Wardrobe: Part Four Shopping The Closet

There’s light at the end of the tunnel! If you have found yourself here, I hope you’ve been enjoying this special little mini series where I am crafting myself a cruise wardrobe just in time for my first ever Disney Cruise abroad the Disney Wonder. Me being me, I couldn’t just pack my suitcases with stuff I already have, no, I had to squeeze all the fun out of life and make most of my holiday wardrobe two weeks before I actually left for the cruise. Way back in Part One we optimistically planned our sewing projects, got all the fabrics and notions ready and set about some fun sewing time. In Part Two we made three out of five planned projects before issues arose and then in Part Three, we finished our sewing by crafting two out of four projects. Alas, we had crafted five brand new outfits and given some of the issues and circumstances we had encountered, I was super happy with my efforts.

So what do we have planned for Part Four? Well, today I just wanted to share some of the other amazing outfits I wore during my cruise just incase anyone was wondering what else they should pack for a Disney Cruise incase it was their first time too. For this trip, I didn’t buy myself anything new because as I was making items, I figured that more than counted.

Cute and Casual Options:
Aboard the cruise, I knew there would be times when I just wanted to be super comfortable, especially with my current Endo flare-up. My favourite and probably most worn outfit consisted of a pair of denim shorts (the ones I had I bought like 6 years ago from Kmart), a Minnie Mouse baby tee from Depop ($10 unique find!!), and a DIY Cinderella sweatshirt. This outfit was often worn with either Connie or my Charlie Stone sandals and, of course, my cute Cinderella-inspired Mickey Mouse Ear headband.
Our cruise was supposed to head to New Caledonia, but of course, we got rerouted and taken to Hobart, which, honestly, I thought was just as amazing. This meant, however, that we would experience cooler weather, which is how I decided to create this sweatshirt. It was also why you will see my navy cardigan in a few photos, as well as some cute long pants coming up. This sweatshirt, although not great quality (full blog on the DIY process coming soon), was really warm, and I found wearing it with shorts kept me warm enough. This outfit was perfect for running around the ship, doing trivia and similar activities, as well as just taking it easy.

Day in Hobart
Our cruise included a day at port in Hobart and what a stunning day it ended up being. Due to it being New Years Day when we were released upon the local Hobartians, it meant that my original plan to go to MOMA was shattered so the next best thing was to walk around and check out the botanic gardens because I’m always happiest surrounded by nature.
As Hobart is relatively cool in weather, this meant that my outfit consisted of long white pants from Vivien of Holloway, a blue and white navy top from Uniqlo (also found on Depop), and then my Vivien of Holloway Navy cardigan, Charlie Stone shoes and my favourite boater hat from Lack of Colour.
Visiting the Botanic Gardens was so much fun, and I loved looking at all the stunning variations of plants growing. Particularly, I loved the Japanese gardens, the hydrangea plants and the huge fields of “weeds”, which were these tiny little white daisy-looking flowers that I’ve always adored. I found my outfit super comfortable, sufficiently warm (it was supposed to rain, but it was really lovely all day) and practical. This outfit was reworn a few more times throughout the trip and it was just a great way to stay stylish and comfortable.

Character Meet-Ups
Of course, there are character meet-ups! Now, I will admit I didn’t really get the best photos of any of the character meet-ups, so I’ve shared photos from the trip of me in outfits even though I’m not pictured with any characters. In saying that, it wasn’t really necessary to bring outfits for just character meets-ups, but as I was spending over a week in Sydney as well, I knew I would get lots of wear out of all my pieces.
Notable I got to wear one of my favourite dresses from She’s Dynamite which definitely gave me Belle vibes, my sailor playsuit from Kitten d’Amour and my favourite mini dress from Niminski.

New Years Eve
Probably the most asked question I’ve had about my particular cruise was “What does Disney do for New Years Eve on a Disney Cruise?”. Well, I think I may save it for a full separate blog but New Years Eve aboard a Disney Cruise is quite special and you can have a lot of fun.
As I knew this would be ‘the night’ to get all dressed up, this would have been where my gown that I magically found time to sew would be worn but alas, I shopped my closet and I could not go past this Teuta Matoshi dress which I bought as my Reception dress and honestly, I wear this dress whenever I can because I absolutely love it and will wear it forever.

I was inspired by Cinderellas pink dress but honestly, I just ended up wearing it with a headband I found at an op shop and my most comfortable heels from I Love Billy. This dress was quite the sensation with lots of little kids wanting to be spun around with “whoever that princess is”. This outfit made me feel super pretty and we spent our New Years enjoying some cocktails named after yours truely at the Cadillac Lounge, a delicious dinner, dancing with Disney friends and lots of fireworks.

Of course you don’t need to bring a full ballgown on a Disney Cruise but there will always be one evening that you can get a little bit more dressed up for. It’s also worth noting that the Disney Cruise may have some restaurants that expect you to dress up a little.
