Kbeauty – COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch Review

Way back to one of my first blogs (phew has time flown!), I made a list of my favourite Kbeauty skincare products and I mentioned the COSRX pimple patch. Since this is such a staple product in my skincare, I thought it deserves it’s own review as I don’t want people to sleep on it’s amazingness. Let’s start by me reminding you that I have generally dry skin with some oily patches in places such as my nose. I have cystic acne and can be prone to breakouts with redness on my cheeks. I have been using these patches for several years and have tried loads of different brands (maybe one day I’ll post a comparison) but I thought I’d focus on COSRX who in general have pretty great products for those of us with acne. The COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch is a hydrocolloid type of patch that helps focus on treating skin troubles. It protects wounded areas, such as where a pimple is, and promotes healing by developing a controlled and protected environment and comes in a range of sizes per packet. Right now, I am wearing two on my face (one on my chin and the other under my nose) as I write up this review.

Thoughts
I’ve had acne since I was about 10/11 years old and there was nothing like this on the market until I hit my early 20’s and I discovered Kbeauty. I have been using these type of pimple patches ever since and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. I wish I found these in high school, they would have made my life so much easier.
After I wash my face, depending on how big and gross the pimple is, I place a patch that will cover the pimple by gently peeling it off the sticker backing and then gently pressing it onto my pimple. I then leave it overnight or wear it throughout the day (generally around 8 hours). As I wear it, the patch pulls and absorbs all the sebum, pus and other gunk from the pimple and hold it inside the patch. When the patch is full, or whenever I want to take it off, I simply peel off the sticker and using an astringent, gently clean the skin underneath. I can either apply another patch if I feel necessary or leave my skin to heal itself.
I’m a picker, yes I know you shouldn’t pick at your spots but I sometimes can’t help myself! These patches are a godsend after I pick the nasty ones as they make sure all the gunk is out of the pore and doesn’t form a second pimple. Sometimes a big whitehead will burst on it’s own and these stickers really help make sure the pore is clean. Sometimes I’m surprised by how much gunk is inside the old pimple!
These patches also help me to stop touching my pimples and to stop dirt and bacteria going into the pimple. I tend to get really obsessed with my skin so I can touch a bit more than I know I should. These patches ensure my big pimples are taken care off without me poking them.
I often wear these patches at night if I feel my pimples need them but I do also wear them out during the day. Some brands are a lot thinner and translucent then the COSRX patches, but I find these to be really strong. I honestly don’t mind wearing them out and although people notice them, I’d rather care for my skin than cover everything in makeup and further clogging my pores. You can put makeup over the top of the patch but it’s difficult to make it ‘disappear’.
If I do have a particular nasty pimple (mainly a cyst that burst), I find that the patches can fill up pretty quickly. I change them out every couple of hours as needed as I don’t want the gunk to stay on my skin. I find that my acne clears faster with these patches.
I have also gone swimming in the patches and found they stayed on pretty well.
After you are done with the patch, throw it out. Do not wash and try to reuse them (you know who you are!).

These patches are a game changer. If you have acne of any kind, grab a packet of these patches and try them out. The only thing I can say that’s bad about them is that they are a bit wasteful, you can’t reuse the stickers but I suppose it’s like a band-aid or plaster, you just dispose of it once it’s done it’s job. I also find the patches pretty budget friendly, depending on how my skin is going, a packet can last me several months and they work out to be between 3 and 4 cents per use.
I will definitely keep buying these patches. Personally, I find the COSRX brand to be the best patch in terms of performance and value but I do have other brands I use, such as NexCare which I use for other times. I hope this review helps you on your journey to smoother skin.
