I’ve been battling super dry skin for several years which means I’ve tried my fair share of moisturising products; one such staple is a good hyaluronic acid serum. According to medicalnewstoday.com, hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body, including the skin, eyes, and joints. The primary function of hyaluronic acid is to provide moisture to these areas of the body. One 2014 study Trusted Source involved female participants applying topical hyaluronic acid as a lotion, serum, and cream. The study results demonstrated an increase of skin hydration of up to 96% after 8 weeks of use across the different types. With hyaluronic acid being so important to my skins health, I thought I would highlight two of my current favourite serums incase you are also needing a bit of a moisture boost. Today we will be looking at the Mizon hyaluronic acid 100 serum and the The plant Base hyaluronic acid 100 serum.
Mizon Hyaluronic Acid 100 Serum
I’ve gone through a few bottles of this and many kbeauty enthusiasts rave on about this little bottle of hydrating goodness. The Mizon hyaluronic Acid 100 is a serum containing 50% hyaluronic acid, with a mix of other humectants, antioxidants, emollients and skin conditioning agents. Mizon claims that its serum is “lightweight, silky, and fast-absorbing” and “ideal for all skin types, working to prevent moisture loss to keep skin hydrated from the inside out.”

How to use:
This product can be applied multiple different ways. If using it as a serum, apply it after your cleanser, toner, and essence. Simply pat it into the skin using upward and outward motions until it is fully absorbed. Follow up with your regular moisturiser. You can also combine 1-2 drops of this into your moisturiser and then apply it to your face. This provides a rich layer of hydration that’s perfect for your nighttime routine

Thoughts:
Compared to other hyaluronic acid serums I have tried, the Mizon serum has a very thin formula compared to others which has a thick clear consistency. The formula has a cloudy appearance, a slightly sweet scent and comes in a small sized dropper bottle. The star ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is an extremely popular ingredient in Korea (and globally). Making up 50% of the formula, it is known for its ability to add long-lasting hydration back into the skin. A lightweight, silky, and fast-absorbing ingredient, it is ideal for all skin types, but especially dry skin. Hyaluronic acid is capable of holding up to 1000 times its own weight in water, it also promotes blood circulation and nutrient absorption. It’s the same ingredient used in cosmetic dermal fillers, such as lip filler. True to its promise to deliver a hydration boost to the skin, the formula also contains ceramides (aka fat molecules) that help the skin retain moisture and allow for proper function. They work to strengthen the skin’s barrier and prevents moisture loss. Tropolone has an antioxidant and antibacterial activity, while also working as a preservative in the formula. Raspberry extract acts as an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage, while Copper tripeptide-1, hydrogenated lecithin and cholesterol improve skin’s elasticity.
I really found this formula smooth, watery and easy to apply. Because of it’s texture, it absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a film. It didn’t react with my moisturisers and really helped my skin feel plum and hydrated. When I first started using this product it took a couple of weeks to really see any improvement but now I find myself reaching for it most night during my skincare regime.

The Plant Base Hyaluronic Acid 100 Serum
I received this serum in the 2020 YesStyle Advent calendar and put it aside and accidentally forgot about it. As I was waiting for a replacement of my Mizon serum to arrive, I found my box of spare skincare and pulled out this beauty just in the nick of time. It was a saviour! Now that my bottle has run out, I am certainly purchasing a replacement and most likely will continue to do so. Whilst looking up information on this serum, I found there wasn’t a lot of information out there as I believe the product is relatively new, despite this, it is a wonderful serum for those needing a hydrating boost to their complexion.
Ingredients:
Sodium Hyaluronate
How to Use
Apply 1-2 drops on the face evenly and pat gently for further absorption. Or, drop 1-2 drops and mix well with other skincare products will have a boosting effect.
Because this formula is so thick, I find that personally, after I was my face, I pat on some clean water and then add my serum on top. I read that the hyaluronic acid molecules grip onto water and then are able to pull the water into the skin. I’m not sure how true this is but I find it really helps me and I certainly see the difference the next morning.

Thoughts:
Let’s start by saying that this formula is thick! Compared to Mizon, this is more of a gel consistency which makes it glide across the skin smoothly. It is an intensely moisturizing and hydrating ampoule that is formulated with 100% pure sodium hyaluronate without adding any potential irritants. It contains 100% Hyaluronic Acid for intensive moisturizing so when my skin is really struggling, it is a saviour. If you struggle with dryness, The Plant Base Waterfall Moist Balanced Hyaluronic Acid 100 will be the secret addition to your routine that will change everything! This ampoule contains 100% pure sodium hyaluronate, a stable, water-soluble form of hyaluronic acid that has smaller molecules than hyaluronic acid, to better penetrate the skin and pump it with hydration. Just a few drops help plump and hydrate skin, making it appear smoother and firmer over time. This powerful booster infuses skin with intense moisture without using harsh ingredients or potential irritants like parabens, artificial fragrance, silicones, surfactants, and mineral oil. You can finally say goodbye to dry patches and rough skin. Lightweight and hydrating, this versatile ampoule has the pH level of 6.15.
One negative of this product is that the bottle doesn’t allow you to see how much product you have left so one evening I just ran out. As I cannot open the bottle, I cannot even see if there’s anything left to scrape off the sides but I am a fan of the dropper bottle as it’s very clean and convenient.
