It’s been a hot minute since we’ve done a review and who better to break that drought but incredible small business, Turning Heads by Carolina? We’ve mentioned this brand before here on the blog but it certainly deserved it’s own post and all the spotlight. As you may remember, not too long ago, I took part in the Hot Rod and Customs Pinup Pageant in Sydney and for crowning, I wore an incredible two piece outfit custom made by Carolina. This is the outfit we will be looking at as it’s simply divine and it have quite the story.
For those unaware of Turning Heads by Carolina, it’s time to meet the one woman show of incredible talent (and fabric selection). This small, woman run business is every vintage enthusiasts dream; delightful, professional and customizable tiki inspired retro outfits. Carolina sources the best material from all over which are normally colourful, high quality and adorned with incredible tropical and tiki images. Carolina works her magic and creates an incredible aray of tops, dresses, shirts, skirts and other delights which honestly, come out perfect each and every time.

Let’s have a look at the top. It’s a tie up crop top with adjustable crossed back straps, a gathered back panel and it’s lined. What more could you want? I find the bosom is really comfortable and being able to adjust the tie at the front let’s me decide how much cleavage to show off. I love the elasticated stretch back panel as it means this top will fit me no matter if I lose or gain weight. This top can easily be worn with loads of different bottoms and personally I want to rock it with black disco pants and a leather jacket.

Now the shorts; they fit an absolute dream. I love the slight flare out at the bottom of the hem as it give the look an edge of cuteness and it makes it super comfortable as well. The back of the shorts have a zipper and the waist is closed with a button. When wearing both these pieces at the same time, the outfit looks like a playsuit which can be a lot of fun in summer and I’ll pair it with a belt. I love that I can pair these shorts with a range of top, cardigans and blouses so I can style a tropical look however I want.
As i explore my vintage style a little bit more, an outfit such as this definitely lets me try out the rockabilly and tiki style a little bit more. With the garments being so well constructed and the finishings being impeccable, I know this is an outfit that will stay with me for a long time. As i was wearing this outfit in Sydney, I had so many people compliment it and ask where it’s from. It was exciting showing them that they can have it made up in a range of different fabrics. I would love this set in a tropical floral print with a matching skirt; perfect for summer.
If you haven’t already, check out Turning Heads by Carolina and indulge in a piece or two of custom made clothing. All the pieces Carolina creates are treasures to be worn for all occasions.
