KBeauty – Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam Review

Whilst in South Korea, there was the ability to buy skin care everywhere. Olive Young as well as brand stores were littered amongst the street making the temptation of picking up a new product very tempting. Whilst perusing the streets, my friends and I came across a skincare store with some pretty heft discounted products. We found out after a bit of research that these kind of stores sold deadstock of products that have changed their packaging or no longer wanted to sell a certain product but had heaps of stock. These kind of stores were great to try normally expensive products for a huge discount and it is where I found todays kbeauty product, the Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam.

My skin type: very dry especially on the forehead with occasional dry patches on the cheeks. Very red cheeks from skin sensitivities and large visible pores from years of acne. Cystic acne is triggered by hormones around the chin area that leaves hyperpigmentation and scars after the cyst is gone.

Thoughts:
Although the product calls itself a ‘cleansing foam’, when you pump the product, it comes out as a see-through liquid gel. Once activated with water and some rubbing between the hands, it does foam up a little but it’s not as foamy as other cleansers; I’d personally describe it more as it emulsifies with water. The good thing about this cleanser is that a little goes a long way; I personally found that one or two pumps was more than enough to wash my entire face. The cleanser has a soft fragrance which I could never quite put my finger on but it’s a citrusy herbal kind of smell which doesn’t linger.

As someone with very dry skin, I personally found this cleanser really lovely and gentle on my skin. It always did an amazing job of cleansing my skin, removing impurities and makeup, without stripping my skin and leaving it feeling dry and tight. I really loved how efficient this cleanser was but loved even more how delicately it worked. I would abslolutely recommend this cleanser if you have dry skin and it’s a product I’d love to keep in my skincare rotation.

If you are wearing heavy makeup, I wouldn’t recommend this cleanser on its own. However, after using an oil cleanser, I’d then use the Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleanser to make sure every impurity is removed from the skin. When wearing heavy liquid lipsticks, the cleanser did struggle and it also struggled with waterproof mascara however, as a secondary cleanser after a good oil cleansing, which is my normal routine anyway, the cleanser was amazing. With it being so gentle, I never felt like my skin was going to be stripped and left dry and tight.

It’s worth noting that if you are looking at getting yourself this cleanser, the packaging has changed. In these images I am using the older packaging which is how I found this cleanser at the discounted beauty store. All the ingredients are the same and nothing else has changed between my packaging and the newest one. I know Sulwhasoo is a wonderful brand which is all about luxury; although personally I find the price to be a little high, I’m so glad I got to try a few products from this brand at a heavily discounted store (I think I paid about $12 AUD for it). In saying that, the product is readily available online at a range of prices depending on where you get it from and shipping. You can find it for around $20 up to about $65 so I’d recommend shopping around a bit.

Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this product. It’s one of my favourite cleansers that I’ve ever used and my bottle has lasted me almost a year (I do switch to other cleansers depending on my needs). Sulwhasoo is very well known for their beautiful gift boxes so I think this cleanser with a few other products could make a wonderful gift for someone or just a treat for yourself. I really hope you get to try this cleanser and love it as much as I do; as you can see from the photos, I really don’t have that much cleanser left and I’m sad to stop using it. I think I will be repurchasing it later but I have other cleansers I want to try until then.
