Sewing my Christmas Dress for 2023 with Snoopy Fabric and Vogue 9100

According to the radio, it’s the most wonderful time of the year but I know for many of us right now, we are riding the struggle bus. This year I wanted to sew at least one garment per month to keep myself active and hopefully use it as a means to stay focused and creative. I started off the year quite well but over the last few months, I’ve struggled to keep up with new and exciting sewing projects. Right now, my life is being held together by sheer optimism so I don’t have it in me to make something overly fantastical for Christmas. This year I’ll be having a very quiet and calm Christmas so I just want this year’s dress to be super simple and casual. Although at this point I’ve made Vogue 9100 three times, it’s going to be my Christmas dress pattern and hopefully my last make of the year.

Back in September I was shopping for my Halloween fabric in Spotlight and they already had their Christmas fabric out which made me super excited about some holiday sewing. As I started browsing all the Festive fabric they had, I noticed a small selection of Peanuts/Snoopy themed holiday fabric and I knew that that is what we were going to make for this years Christmas dress. Although I already made myself a Christmas Snoopy dress two or so years ago, I couldn’t resist making another as I really do love Snoopy and all his friends. I picked out a bright green Snoopy themed fabric which depicted Snoopy doing various festive activities and I purchased about 4 meters of this pure cotton fabric. 4 meters would definitely be enough and I even planned to use the Snoopy fabric as lining as well as there’s normally enough left overs

By this stage, I’ve already written about the Very Easy Vogue 9100 sewing pattern three times (here, and here) so I don’t think I will go into too much detail about the sewing process itself. As I learnt on my third attempt of this pattern, (this Alice print dress was the result), I ended up only changing the shoulder straps by about half an inch to ensure a better fit and luckily they didn’t curve too much as a result. Sewing this pattern was quick and easy and has once again solidified that V9100 is a great pattern that I will continue to use. Hopefully I won’t rely on it too much but I’m glad I’ve got it as a back up incase I just feel like whipping up a quick dress. As I discovered during my third Alice in Wonderland themed make of this pattern, it was a good way to just get fabric out of my stash and into my wardrobe.

Once my new Snoopy Christmas dress was done, I styled it with some red Mary Jane shoes from I Love Billy (purchased from Williams) and then Woodstock earrings and a Charlie Brown brooch from Erstwilder. As I’m still getting used to my new hair colour, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the combination but I’m slowly getting more and more used to the change. I’d love to know what you think of it and of course, there’s a whole blog about the dying process here [Link coming soon].

I am feeling pretty burnt out at this stage of the year and I’m glad to be soon waving goodbye to 2023. Whilst creating my final garment of the year, I look back at all my projects and I am really proud of all my makes. This Snoopy dress brought me so much joy over the Christmas season and I wore it to volunteering events as well as Christmas Day itself. This dress was quick and easy to make and although I felt a little lazy by just sewing the same pattern again, it was something easy and familiar and I finished it in a day. I will definitely still use this pattern in the future but I promise to let it rest for a little while at least.

Ending my year with some Snoopy love was actually a lot of fun; I listened to the soundtrack from the Peanuts Christmas special as I sewed and I took my time just enjoying the process. Although I’ve made a few Snoopy-related posts on my blog, I’m so glad to have another under my belt and I know Snoopy will appear in future posts too. For now, I am happy to wrap up my year and my sewing projects and wish you all a wonderful festive season if you are celebrating and of course a very happy new year. I hope 2024 brings us all a lot of love, laughter and joy. I’ll see you all in the new year!
