KBeauty – Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine Pads

Phew, what a product name! Today I am getting back on the beauty train after a little break with another kbeauty product review; it is the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine Pads. Now I’ve seen this product recommended by several bloggers I follow as well as on a lot of the online sites I visit to buy my kbeauty so eventually I managed to grab a packet and try it out. But was it all that it was cracked up to be?

Claims:
According to Neogen, this bio-peel pad is a two-step exfoliator which aims to reveal brighter and smoother skin without any harsh scrubbing. Each pack contains 30 single-use exfoliating pads soaking in a red wine extract which is rich is AHA and lactic acid. This buffs away dead skin cells, impurities and delivers moisture to the skin.
The pads themselves come with a woven, gauze-like texture on one side and a softer quilted side on the other. The gauze side is to be used for exfoliating the skin and the quilted side is used to pat the essence gently into the skin.
The bio-pad is considered to be an ‘at home peeling’ which both chemically and physically exfoliates by gently removing dead skin cells and impurities to give the skin a smooth and translucent complexion. The wine extract is supposed to aid with improving the elasticity of the skin.

Thoughts:
After all the hype and excitement, I’m sad to say I didn’t love this product as much as I thought I would. Firstly, I really try to cut down on waste as much as I can so but only having single-use pads, it seems very wasteful. After a day or so, I ended up cutting the pads in half as I personally felt that there was a lot of essence for just one use and it felt a bit wasteful. After the pads were halves, I felt I was getting a more reasonable amount of essence onto my skin and there was less waste. Personally, it would be nice if the essence could be purchased on its own but I understand that a lot of planning has gone into the pads themselves to allow them to exfoliate and calm your skin.
The second issue I had with the pads was the scent. I know that wine is made from grapes but the essence just smelt like grape candy. Now I’m not a fan of wine but I didn’t expect this product to be so sickly sweet-smelling. I have noticed a lot of people like the scent and that’s totally fine, but for me personally, I don’t need perfume as an ingredient as it can be harmful to the skin, nor do I need to smell like a grape lolly.
Using the pads, I did feel that I was removing some dead skin cells and other gunk but don’t expect to be scraping off tones of stuff from your pores. It was very gentle and I know that after long term uses your skin will be very soft, smooth and it will help with breakouts. I did like the pad design and being able to switch between the peeling and the buffing side so kudos to the design team. Also, there was a lot of essence which could be seen at the bottom of the tub. Neogen was very generous with their essence and I’m sure you can turn the essence into a sheet mask or soak normal cotton pads and use them until the essence is gone.
Now I really don’t like my skin to feel sticky and unfortunately, this is where I am not keen to repurchase the product again. After I use my half pad, you’re supposed to let the essence sink into your skin and although my skin absorbed some of the essences, a lot was left on the surface. Now I know sometimes you need to wait quite a while for the essence to fully soak in but after an hour I had to wash it off. The essence was super sticky and I could feel my cheeks warming up. It felt like I just had a layer of jam on my skin and that my skin couldn’t breathe. I really tried but yeah, after an hour I got out of bed and had to wash it off. I didn’t want to lay down on my pillow as it just felt too gross and sticky which also meant I couldn’t apply my normal night time moisturizers.
Now that’s not all to say that this is a bad product. My skin was smoother after using it for about two weeks but it’s the smell and stickiness that I couldn’t tolerate towards the end. As I said, I cut up the pads so I can’t imagine what using a full load would be like. I also tried using the pads in the morning but found that if I didn’t properly wash off any excess essence after about 20 minutes, my makeup would be patchy and feel really thick and gross on my skin.
In saying this, I understand that all skin types are different. I originally thought that maybe my skin hasn’t been exfoliated for a while so maybe the essence is just sticking to a layer of outside dead skin but after upping my chemical exfoliators and physical exfoliators, I tried the pads again and they were still just as sticky.
I want to love this product, but it just doesn’t work for me and that’s ok. They will be given to a friend to see if they work better for them. I’m not sure if I would be happy recommending this product as it didn’t work for me, but I have seen it work for others.
