As we all start putting out our festive decorations, we may start thinking about what gifts to put under our trees. It’s not always easy to think of the perfect gift so I thought I’d put together a wide sampling of gift ideas incase you were after something special for the vintage lover, or pinup, in your life. I hopefully have something for everyone and items that can suit all budgets but remember that sometimes the best gifts are those that are full of your heart and soul.
I should note that a lot of these ideas are aimed at ladies and those that identify as women but I will also be releasing a list aimed at dapper gentlemen and those that identify as male. Of course, gifts are for everybody so please keep an open mind.
Vintage/Vintage Inspired Books;
I personally love to curl up with a good book and read my entire day away so I’m always on the hunt for true vintage books. My favourite are books about beauty, housekeeping or etiquette but I am also happy with modern books on such topics as well. Some of my favourites and top recommended reads are:
Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour by Dita Von Teese
Compacts and Cosmetics: Beauty from Victorian Times to the Present Day by Remember When
Westmore Beauty Book — A Complete 1950s Guide to Vintage Makeup, Hairstyling and Beauty Techniques by Bramcost Publications
There is a book on any topic as long as you don’t mind searching around for a while. I’d also recommend checking out biography’s of vintage starlets as they are normally a wonderful read and insight into certain figures. A book is always a gift I cherish and it also gives you the opportunity to sign the inside of the book making the gift more memorable.
Vintage inspired Robe and sleepwear.
All vintage lovers love a little bit of glamour so a great gift could be a vintage inspired robe, pyjama set and/or slippers. If I could make a recommendation, it would be the Miss Gyspy Rose night slip and robe. Silky soft, sensual to the touch and a pleasure to the eyes, the newest line of Miss Gypsy Rose vintage-style bedroom wear is sure to be a magical gift! Available in four colours for ladies who love Hollywood glamour at any and every hour of the day or night and if you are a super glamour puss, there is even a line of matching stiletto slides with marabou toe puffs to match your twin set!
After such a crazy year, I couldn’t think of a better gift than some skincare to encourage a bit of end-of-year pampering. A lovely moisturiser, a new refreshing toner or even some hydrating eye cream. If you’re stuck for ideas, a couple of sheet masks or a nice clay mask can be a great idea too. Remember that skincare is for everyone so this really is a great gift idea!
I get all my skincare from YesStyle as everything is new, factory sealed and high quality. Use my code MONMON8 at checkout for 10% off your order.
Sometimes I like to buy a fresh tube of red lipstick for a brand new year and make it my go-to until it’s finished. This year I absolutely treated myself with a brand new Dior lipstick and was lucky enough to have it personally engraved for myself at no extra cost. Some lipsticks I recommend are:
Revlon Vintage Colours
Always a lovely gift for someone special. If you are after a vintage perfume, I have a list of vintage perfumes you can still buy today here which is a great place to start.
If you can’t think of specific perfume, perhaps a perfume bottle would be a lovely gift? Topxome 80ml Clear Crystal Vintage Style Perfume Bottle Gold Long Spray Tassels Atomizer Pump Refillable Glass Bottles Makeup Tool would look stunning on any mantle, boudoir table or bathroom.
Vintage Bath Powder
A few years ago, I was given a bath powder which completely changed my evening routine. It’s a delightful and super luxurious gift, not to mention, very vintage in it’s nature. Keeping budget in mind, I would recommend the White Shoulders Bath Powder, 2.6 oz. It’s the same one Lucille Ball used and of course, you can get the matching perfume as well. Evyan White Shoulders Eau de Cologne, 81.3ml
Vintage Inspired Bluetooth Speaker
There is constantly music playing somewhere in the house, and my favourite little bluetooth speaker is the Muzen Portable Wireless High Definition Audio FM Radio & Bluetooth Speaker, Metal Black, Travel Case Included. I have one in pink (no surprise there), and it truely is a wonderful way to listen to you music, podcasts and radio. It adds a little bit of vintage fun to your everyday tasks and I carry mine around the house depending what room I am in. This is Muzen’s newest product which is equally as cute: Muzen Audio Berry Blue Button Portable Wireless High Definition Audio Bluetooth Speaker – Classic Vintage Retro Design
If you are wanting something a bit more budget friendly, try this speaker: Retro Bluetooth Speaker, Vintage Radio-Greadio FM Radio with Old Fashioned Classic Style, Strong Bass Enhancement, Loud Volume, Bluetooth 4.2 Wireless Connection, TF Card and MP3 Player (Pink)
Of course you can get these speakers in any colours you want or prefer making this gift perfect for anyone.
Retro Cat Clock
I’ve always wanted one of these in my house and I know once I buy my own house, I’ll decide on the perfect colour. Until then, I recommend it as a wonderful and kitschy gift; Kit Cat Klock Gentlemen Limited Edition (Strawberry Ice).
Even though it’s been around for a very long time, Polaroid cameras are back and easier to find than ever. They make a lovely gift and really are a gift that keeps giving. I personally love having sweet polaroid photos to remember events and to even give as little gifts. Find it here: Fujifilm Instax Mini 11 Automatic Flash Fujifilm Instax Mini 11 Photo Camera, Ice White, Ice White (87014).
Accessories and Jewellery
This is a pretty broad category but a lot of pinups and vintage lovers love to accessories their outfits. Something as simple as a cute vintage brooch, cardigan clips or a hat pin could all make a lovely present. If you are looking for more retro inspired jewellery, check out Daisy Jean Floral, She Loves Blooms, Lipstick and Chrome and Erstwilder for fun quirky designs.
Another fun accessory is the scarf; long or short, it can be worn in a wide range of vintage ways such as around the neck as a neckerchief, over the head, to hide curlers when going out or in the classic head band style that Rosie the Riverter made famous. Scarves can be found everywhere and of course they are super budget friendly.
Sunglasses are another wonderful gift; aim for something with the classic cat-eye shape. I get most of my sunglasses from Deluxe Creations as there are so many deigns, sizes and colours to choose from, plus, they are all budget friendly.
My last recommendation for accessories would be a vintage compact. Either a modern one with two mirrors, or a vintage one with a space for pressed powder are perfect and very practical. With so many designs available, you can definitely find a compact which is perfect for anyone. I have quite a few favoruites which I swap out depending on my mood. To further personalise this gift, you can get it engraved with a sweet message or the receivers name.
This could turn into a never ending gift list but I hope that perhaps something has inspired you and hopefully helped in your festive shopping experience. I’d encourage you to think outside the box, become inspired by something and thinking about the joy you could bring the other person. If you’re still stuck, I always like to spend quality time with someone; sometimes a picnic is a wonderful gift as it involves food, chats and sunshine.
Good luck with your gift hunting!
