D Perfect Red Lipstick by Dafna Review

As a red lipstick enthusiast, nothing quite gives me a thrill as much as a brand new red lipstick. I cannot help but rejoice when I hear of a fellow pinup sister embark on a business venture with a new product and the latest item to hit our hypethetical shelves in a lovely little red lipstick from pink pinup icon, Dafna. Dafna has recently launched a brand new beauty brand, Dafna, with two flagship items; the D Perfect Red Liquid Lipstick and the D Precision lip brush. I’ve already posted a little unboxing reel on my instagram but I got so many questions sent to my inbox that I thought I’d share my thoughts on these products with you. So let’s dive into the very pink and fabulous world of Dafna Beauty.

First Impressions:
When my parcel arrived I was instantly in love with the packaging. This may be a little bias as pink and red is my favourite colour combination, but the cute pink cardboard box (which is recyclable) in contrast to the red lipstick tube certainly made my vintage loving heart flutter. As shipping is a little all over the place, I think waiting a month (it was a pre-order as well) is completely reasonable so I’ll just leave this note here. The lipstick itself comes in a plastic tube with a pink lid and gold writing on the front with the brands name. I am unsure how many millilitres is in the tube, if you do know please let me know. The lipstick lid unscrews to reveal a doe foot applicator with a moderate sized brush. The bristles on the applicator are quite short which is a personal preference of mine as it allows for a smoother application.

As for the lipstick itself, it is a vegan friendly formula in a vivid and saturated shade of red. It’s not a strong blue-red but still in the blue red shade range. Personally, this is my preferred shade of red as anything with too much orange or yellow in it just doesn’t go with my complexion. The lipstick applies smoothly with one swipe giving full coverage. The lipstick dries quickly to a matte velvety finish and is not patchy, doesn’t crumble, lift or peel off. I found application very simple and I didn’t need to keep re-dipping my applicator into the tube.

When it comes to the precision brush, it is absolutely stunning.A gold toned double ended brush with a cap concealing a wider brush for filling in the lips and a retractable end concealing a thin brush for lining the lips. The brush is very light weight and can easily be stored in a purse and carried around. I’m a particular fan of the capped and retractable end which means you won’t get handbag dust and dirt (and crumbs … how are there always crumbs?) all over your brush. Using the brush was very simple and the different brushes made application really simple. Personally I find it a bit quicker to just use the lipsticks applicator but it’s normally because I just need to whack on a lipstick top up and go. In saying that, I will still use my brush but most likely for the initial application in the mornings.

Final thoughts:
I’ve been wearing this lipstick for a few weeks now and find that it lasts for several hours. After about 4 hours of wear I do need to reapply as the inside of my lip has worn away and knowing me, I’ve eaten and need to tidy my lips up. I do on some days get a little bit of bleeding around my top lip line but I think thats more to do with the weather changing and my skin being a tad more dry than usual. I’ve really been enjoying this lipstick as I find the formula really light weight, it doesn’t make my lips look chapped or dry and it doesn’t feel drying to wear all day. The lipstick has a light sweet scent, but it fades rather quick. As for removal, a little micellar water on a cotton pad is sufficient and oil cleansers remove the lipstick with no problems. I don’t get any staining after the lipstick is removed.

This is an absolutely wonderful lipstick and I cannot recommend it enough. It retails on it’s own for $43 AUD and in a set with the precision brush for $56 AUD. That is a little steep for a liquid lipstick but it’s necessary to remember that costs are higher for small businesses and by supporting Dafna, you’re supporting the dream of a fellow pinup. After I run out of my lipstick, I know I will be purchasing a replacement.

Please Note: after posting my mini unboxing and first try on reel on Instagram, I received a comment saying because the wand of the lipstick was covered in product, that means that my lipstick had previously been opened and possibly used. I cannot account to this but I assure you that I opened my lipstick for the first time on camera and I’m sure it’s just the softness of the lipstick formula.
