A quote I’ve always enjoyed is “not all who wonder are lost” as it gives me a sense of grounding as I try to navigate life. I also know that I have no sense of direction and tend to get lost easily but sometimes, when I am walking around lost I find some amazing things. On a trip to Singapore earlier this year, I was lost amongst the shopping centre labyrinth which is where I stumbled upon a true vintage store called DejaVu Vintage. I wasn’t expecting to find a true vintage store as many locals says no one wears vintage or second hand clothing too much so I knew I stumbled upon a gem. In a recent haul video from my trip to Singapore, I showed my purchased from DejaVu Vintage but I wanted to give this gorgeous little store its own post because it really was a delight to find and I don’t think anyone can go to Singapore without indulging in a little retail therapy.
Located in Millenia Walk along Raffles Boulevard, DejaVu Vintage is a carefully curated true vintage store with many gems hidden inside. The front of the store had a stunning display of well dressed mannequins sporting various decades of vintage dress which definitely drew me in. If you shop for vintage clothing long enough, you can spot it a mile away. The store is very clean, well organised, bright and well played out. I personally get really overwhelmed by cramped stores so everything being spaced out so well was a delight to shop in. One side of the store houses all the delightful vintage garments for sale whilst the other has a huge range of jewellery and other accessories. There is a centre section with tops and blouses as well as shoes and other items.

I loved the layout of the clothing of the store as it was divided into sections which the staff knew intimately. After saying I prefer more 50’s style garments, I was instantly lead to the correct section and shown some pieces. Now I have been shopping for vintage clothing for quite a while and my collection is quite extensive so I have become quite picky about what items I try on and/or purchase. After looking at a few options and trying on several, I found two pieces that I absolutely adored.

The staff at DejaVu Vintage were an absolute delight and you could tell they were very passionate and knowledgeable about the items they had. The lady serving me, unfortunately I don’t remember her name, was so passionate about her items it was really a joy to be around. She showed me some very pretty pieces and also let me browse her vintage designer items. I found a wide range of dresses and other such garments that I tried on and I did end up getting two.
The first was an apple green cotton dress with some stunning lace eyelet details. The colour of this dress is really beautiful as it’s a crisp apple green which gives off a youthful and playful vibe. I absolutely love a good sleeve on a dress so when I saw the sleeves on this particular one, it was love at first try on. Short puff sleeves that are cuffed are always a win but these ones also feature a strip of white eyelet lace going down the middle which adds a unique element to the whole thing. This eyelet lace detail is repeated along the waistband of the dress and I personally love the contrast between the green and the white. The neckline of the dress is a wide scoop but the centre front neckline has pleats which are really flattering and a unique touch. The dress has a centre back lapped metal zip and she fits like a dream. The skirt of the dress has small pleats and end just on knee length but she has a very wide hem which I can take out if I ever need it. The dress has a label telling me she is from the brand, A Lawrence Dress, which is originally based in New York and Montreal.

The second dress, and probably one of my favourite vintage finds in a long while, gives me absolute Barbie vibes which is very fitting given the Barbie movie just came out. I’m a particular fan of the fabric of this dress as it is a soft pastel blue stripes with white head lattice details throughout the stripes that alternated with a white and pastel blue floral embroidered stripe. It sounds odd but it really just looks like a pretty striped dress which is also a timeless classic. This dress features a wide neckline and a darted bodice. She is fully lined with a delightful soft cotton and has boning added for extra shape. This dress has inch wide straps which for me are a little too long so I will bring them in at a later date. The skirt of the dress has wide pleats and she reaches my knees which is great. I do believe this dress had a belt at some stage as there are threaded belt loops along the waistline and I’m tempted to cut into the hem seam and use fabric from there to make another belt. My dress doesn’t have a label so I’m not sure if it’s from an actual brand or a home made item but regardless, I think it’s a wonderful piece. At the time of purchase I had just gotten over being very sick for a few months so I had lost a lot of weight; this meant that the dress was a little loose on me and I will bring her in just a little so she is a snugger fit when I eventually return to a healthier weight. This dress reminded me of that iconic vintage Barbie where she wore a similar blue and white striped dress. If this dress was a better fit I’d have worn it to see the movie but I did enjoy sewing my own dress for the occasion.

DejaVu Vintage in Singapore was such a delightful find and I’m so glad I got to explore it. I loved seeing all the unique pieces they had and I have to say they have a budget to suit everyone. Although some items were pricey, it’s kind of expected for true vintage designer and of course they had items which were on the lower end. I found that all their garments were really well maintained and assistance was offered whilst trying on to help protect the garments from stains or rips. I was happy to see that some items were housed in dress bags to protect them and their embellishments which is always a pleasure to see.

I had such a lovely shopping experience at DejaVu Vintage that I would recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Singapore themselves. It’s worth noting that they also have an online store which you can access if you are interested. Whenever I return to Singapore, I will be sure to pop in and have another browse. If you have watched my Singapore haul video, you will know that there is another store I visited whilst travelling and also did some shopping at, Nimisski, I will be posting a full review on that store and it’s items soon so please check back.
