Sewing Goals for 2025

Over the last few years, I have made heaps of new garments and have grown in my sewing skills. As it currently stands, I feel like it’s time for me to really try and push myself out of my sewing comfort zone which means I need to set some new goals. Setting these sewing goals for the year has become a chance for me to really think about what I want to learn, see any patterns I’m developing that may not be helpful, as well as a chance to get excited about future projects. Like most new years resolutions, I don’t always get to complete my sewing goals because lets face it, time and chronic illness isn’t always on my side. This means that once again a few goals will be repeated but I will be trying to edit down my goals to be more achievable. So, let’s see what delusions I set for myself in 2025.

Shop the Stash
I still do not have a reason to buy any new fabric, so I will hopefully be avoiding this. I completely understand if I have a specific project that I need to get something in. I think that’s fine, but for the most part, I have enough stuff in the sewing room to last me until at least the end of the decade.
As part 2 of this particular goal, I have heaps of fabric pieces in my stash with pre-assigned garments I want to make from them. Just make them and get the project out of my ‘to-do’ list.

Sew Some Delicates
For the last little while I have wanted to sew lingerie or at least, some more personal and delicate items. The main reason I’ve been slow on this idea is that the idea of buying new materials (elastics and clasps etc) seems really daunting so this one might take some more time to work out.

Sew some Swimwear
As I want to work with different materials as often as I can, I figured it’s time to actually try working with swimwear, even if I just try a few modern patterns. This is one goal I am really excited about!

Try more Indie Patterns
Although this goal has been repeated over the last few years, I think my biggest issue is the task of printing, cutting and assembling the pattern means a lot of movement and pain for my body. It’s easier to work with patterns that I have ready to go as my body can’t always do the tasks I want it to. This year, THIS YEAR we will try more indie patterns!

Sewing Other Things
Sewing dresses and gowns is fun, but this year I also want to make some unique items such as pouches, tailor hams and other things. Maybe I should try cushions or something?

Have Fun
Corny I know, but sewing is my happy activity and I love my sewing space. I want to keep learning, growing and trying to make better garments. This means listening to my bodies limitations, and being ok with failure. I want to get excited about projects and not just fully plan them out and never get around to finishing them.

Right now I cannot tell you how the year will go, but I do hope to make some new things, learn new skills and have fun along the way. To all those who have enjoyed any of my sewing projects that I’ve ever shared, thank you. I appreciate all the love, support and kind words.

See you at the sewing machine!
