Feeling overwhelmed this spooky season? Wanting things to be a bit more cozy and calm? Here are 10 cosy activities to try out this spooky season! These activities are great for a small gatherings, solo nights or couples evenings. They are designed to get you thinking creatively, have a little fun, do something a little different and get you away from just staring at a screen (background cute spooky movies are totally ok though!). These activities get your brain thinking and working differently from your average day to day which in turn can improve your mental health, bring about connection and bring your a little spooky joy.
Painting
Just because I’m a little extra, I love making plaster mould figures to paint and have done this my whole life. But, you don’t actually need to just paint a plaster halloween figure; you can paint a spooky picture or paint onto an existing piece of art you find at the op shop but make it spooky. There really is no limit to this kind of activity so get creative, enjoy the slow pace of the activity and let out your artistic side.

Cook Something Delicious and Seasonal
One of the best parts of the holiday season is the food. Take the time out to bake something really delicious and seasonal be it sweet or savoury. Sweet treats can also be a fun way to use up any left over Halloween trick or treat candy. This activity doubles as meal prepping and I personally freeze a fair amount for my future self to enjoy on migraine days. I recently tried this recipe and loved it!
Star Gazing
Depending on where you live and weather of course, a little spooky seasonal star gazing is a great way to have a cozy evening. Even if you don’t have a telescope, laying under the stars and actively observing them can do wonders for your brain and it’s also super cute and romantic.
Craft a Wreath
This one may only be aimed at myself, but I love making myself (or a friend) a seasonal door wreath. Making a wreath gets you crafty, using up any art supplies you may have laying around, having fun but also time focusing on a unique project. Sometimes I pull about wreaths that are … regretful in design choice, and get to reuse old bits and pieces to make something new and fun.

Cozy Audiobook
One of the hopes of this lists is to get you away from a screen which has become a huge comfort to a lot of people. With this list, it’s easy to still want some “noise” in the background for extra ambience but also a fun buffer of sound. May I suggest a spooky audiobook? There are amazing free audiobooks available online or on apps such as Libby. Check out ‘Coraline’ by Neil Gaiman or anything from Stephen King!
Spooky Listening
So I understand that an audiobook may not be the best for everyone, I get it. However, there are heaps of great albums and playlists out there with the perfect spooky and cozy vibe you are wanting. I love popping on a vinyl but also have some fun playlists for the season. Check out this blog post for my top seasonal recommendations.

Pumpkin Carving
Even though it feels like an obvious option, you can’t go wrong with the classic spooky activity of pumpkin carving. Don’t worry about buying those cheap carving kits as what you have on hand in the kitchen will work just fine (be safe and careful with sharp tools) but also consider painting pumpkin if thats more your thing.
Lap craft
Take out those lap crafts! Be it embroidery, needle felting, knitting, crochet or whatever else, and do a fun spooky themed activity. Even by crafting a small seasonal project, you get yourself a fun and crafty evening, plus a cute gift for yourself or a friend. One of my favourite seasonal crafts was making this straw witches hat.
To amplify the seasonal vibes, scavenging for fallen leaves and other natural seasonal gifts can really help boost crafting projects. However, please be responsible and respectful if you choose to gather items from nature.
Oggle the Decorations of the Neighbourhood
So much cheaper than walking around a shopping centre, but go take a long walk around the neighbourhood and see if you can spot any Halloween decorations. This gets you out of the house, doing gentle movement but also gets you a dash of sunshine and fresh air which are all great for making your brain feel happy. The added Halloween decoration viewing just adds to the overall joy.
Enjoy a spooky read
For a very cozy and calm evening, enjoy a really good book. It can be something you’ve read before or perhaps something currently trending; it really doesn’t matter too much what your choice is, but reading is a great way to have yourself a cozy evening. Best enjoyed with a delicious seasonal hot beverage.
Whatever activity you choose, even if it’s not from this list, taking time out for yourself and doing something fun, seasonal and crafty can really be a great mood booster and improve your mental health. I’m not saying some hot glue and glitter will solve your seasonal depression, but it gets you out of a rutt, possibly being social and that in itself is worth the paint clean up after. All these activities can be sourced from what you might already have at home, from op shops or easily online. I would encourage youto use what you already have but also let your imagination take over and have fun.
Be kind to yourself this holiday season <3
