I sometimes love living vicariously through people and as I scroll social media, I love watching people shop holiday decorations and show what stores are selling. I find it fun to see all the new designs that come out and although I don’t really need any new decorations, i accidentally fell in love with a door wreath I saw in someones Walmart shopping video. So by now, you might have noticed that I live in the land down under which means, I don’t have a Walmart anywhere near my house. In fact, for me to get to the closest Walmart, it would be something like a 23 hour flight so I think I won’t be shopping at Walmart for a while yet. So, how do I get myself a Walmart Halloween door wreath without spending thousands on plane tickets, you DIY it of course.

This is the wreath in question and I know it won’t suit all styles but with my home having heaps of these retro colours, I thought it would be a fun and bright edition to my Halloween decor. Also, in an attempt to be more mindful about my spending and overcomsumption, I ended up reusing an old wreath from a few years ago that had fallen apart completely. I pulled off the remaining original decorations and carried on as normal, I was also very lucky that the colour I painted the wreath originally suited the current project so I didn’t need to wait too long for paint to dry.
Materials:
Foam Wreath Base
Paint and Paint brushes
Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue
Pom Poms 25mm in desired colours. I used yellow, beige, light pink and orange.
-Black Felt
-Scissors

Steps:
-Start by painting you foam wreath a base colour. Depending on what colours you want this project, choose something thats within the same colour range as your pom poms. I chose pink.

-Arrange your pom pom along the wreath as you like and adhere to the wreath using hot glue. I tried to go for a scattered random pattern but tried to keep it looking neat.

-When you are happy with your pom pom placement on your wreath, fold your black felt in half and cut out half a bat shape. Unfold your bats and attach them to your wreath with hot glue. I chose to cut out three bats

-If you wish to add any more decorations, you absolutely may do so but apart from that, you are done! Go hang up your wreath and enjoy it.
It’s certainly worth saying that this project can be customised to suit all colour and home decore themes and you should not feel boxed in by my or the original wreathes colour palette. The colours worked for me so I used similar ones but I encourage you to find colours that better suit your home. Also, the bat shapes can be changed to be any shape you wish such as little pumpkins, ghosts or black cats so feel free to have fun there too.

There are obviously several differences between the two wreaths but for a chill afternoon activity, I had a heap of fun putting this wreath together. Being able to reuse the foam base after. the original wreath had fallen apart, made me glad to give the foam another lease on life. I notice that after a few years, some wreaths need a little more attention or tlc but I love being able to reuse and use what I have. I am a little curious to see how to pom poms fair whilst being outside but my door doesn’t get rained on or gets direct sunshine so I’m hoping it’ll last well. I do know the Walmart original wreath is marketed as ‘indoor only’ but honestly, I love making wreaths and if in a few year I need to rip off the pom poms and resue the base, I absolutely will.

This pompom wreath is super adorable and I love how cute and whimsicle it came out. I know this is in no way an orginal idea but I’m so glad to have been able to share a fun and budget friendly DIY project inspired by something I can’t purchase anyway. I’d love to make another pom pom wreath in the future so keep your eyes out for something similar in the future. Maybe for Valentines day?
As always, I’d love to see your own creations if you do decide to make your own wreath. Please tag me on social media if you do so I can see your creations!
