Continuing down the nostalgia road, Daisy Jean has released another magical collection full of childhood memories. Released in 1986, Labyrinth was a musical fantasy film directed by Jim Henson, with George Lucas as executive producer, based upon conceptual designs by Brian Froud. It follows the tale of teenage Sarah journeys through a maze to recover her baby brother from a goblin king starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.
When I was a kid, I tried watching the film but it honestly scared the living bajeepers out of me (I only saw the scene with the junkyard hag and it just frightened me, to be fair I think I was 3) so I only watched the film for the first time about a month ago. What can I say, I’ve caught up on a lot of things over the quarantine period. The film is bonkers, fun and full of crazy characters which I now see as the basis of its appeal. I was so happy to see David Bowie on screen and looking fabulous and enjoy the music of the film. It was a wonderful experience and glad to have caught up on it now.
The new collection from Daisy Jean features characters in brooch forms such as the Goblin King, Sarah, Ludo, Worm, Sir Didymus and Ambrosius, and Hoggle. There is also a Goblin King Owl necklace and Orb Dangle earrings. It’s all rather exciting and I am so keen to share with you some of my favourites. In all below photos, I am wearing Daisy Jean Bonnie Hoops and a true vintage lace dress which reminded me of Sarah’s Dream dress.
Sarah Brooch
The main protagonist of Labyrinth is, of course, Sarah; a teenager who is more interested in fairytales rather than reality and babysitting her little brother. After accidentally wishing her brother to be taken away by the Goblin King, she embarks on a quest to get him back before the time runs out. Although she is dressed very practical throughout the film, there is one particular scene which makes every little girl drool and dream. During the dream sequence where she dances with Jareth, Sarah wears a shimmering silver ballgown with gold trim, with huge off-the-shoulder sleeves and a full skirt. She has elaborate, vine-like decorations in her hair, which has been curled, and extravagant jewellery. This costume matches that of the figurine in the music box seen in Sarah’s room.
I’m stunned that Daisy Jean could capture such a stunning outfit and magical moment in one single brooch. Let’s start with her stunning dress; the resin used is a white iridescent swirl resin with a pearlescent finish and some glitter. It is absolutely beautiful and I wish there was true fabric with that effect. Sarah’s face is so soft and pretty, her details are so delicate that it’s amazing it’s all done on the resin. Her hair is made up of a shiny black resin with silver detailings painted in to match her film counterpart. The brooch has two layers of resin, is flat and the back has a horizontal safety brooch. She is a lovely addition to any Labyrinth fan’s collection and also just a stunning little brooch to own.

Ludo Brooch
It’s time to check out Ludo, the friendly giant and Sarah’s truest friend whilst in the labyrinth. Ludo is first encountered being tormented by a group of goblins in the middle of the Labyrinth; he is helpless, hung upside down and bound. After scaring the goblins away by throwing stones at them, Sarah releases Ludo and after calming him down allows him to join her on her quest to save her brother Toby. I really love Ludo’s ability to summon rocks to help aid their quest and of course, just how lovely, loyal and friendly he is.
I don’t know how Daisy Jean managed it but Ludo looks even cuter as a brooch than he does on screen. I am absolutely amazed and in love with the brown resin pattern on his fur. It’s full of swirls and washes of colour which make him look really lovely in the sunshine, he practically sparkles. With such resin, it means that each Ludo will be different and unique to its owner making Ludo even more special; it’s almost like everyone get’s their own gentle giant to look after the. The details of Ludo’s face make him appear really kind and friendly; I’m a particular fan of his face resin and his golden eyes. The brooch has two layers of resin, is flat and the back has a horizontal safety brooch.

Worm Brooch
He may be in the film for all of 5 minutes but he is my favourite character by far … mainly because he offers tea and that’s a sure way to my heart. This little guy is so dang cute and his teeny tiny little red scarf makes my toes curl from cuteness. His stunning blue resin body and hair is made from shimmery swirls and changing blue patter. His eyes, scarf and body are all made from a single tone red and cream resin respectively. The brooch has two layers of resin, is flat and the back has a vertical safety brooch.
I really love the worms sleepy expression and he looks amazing made up in resin. Daisy Jean really captured his friendly features and charm. I think this may be my favourite brooch of the whole collection. I will definitely be wearing my worm brooch with future outfits playing with blue and red tones. He would also be a cute addition for anything needing a bit of a nerdy reference.

The Labyrinth Parody collection from Daisy Jean features so many wonderful characters in the form of brooches, earrings and necklaces. It’s a wonderful trip down memory lane for fans of the film, David Bowie and all things 80’s. Daisy Jean did a great job capturing all the expressions, personalities and friends from the film and imagine them in new ways. There really is something for everyone who is a fan of the film; even if I’ve only seen it once or twice, I still loved all the characters and can’t wait to embrace them in future outfits.
I’d love to know if you have a favourite moment from the film or a piece from the collection. If you’d like to shop the Labyrinth collection, visit Daisy Jean before the collection sells out.
