Pinup with a Passport – Road Trip to Jurien Bay

A few months ago, myself, Miss Lady Lady, Miss Lillian Rose and Fate Photography were all commissioned to create some vintage beach images for the Family Affair Cafe in Jurien Bay. Needless to say, the images were a huge success and the locals loved them! It didn’t take long before we were all invited for a meet and greet. We were all so excited to be asked to come host a wonderful event and meet the lovely people of Jurien Bay. Compared to where I live, Jurien Bay is close to 3 hours drive so this meant, in order to get there… ROAD TRIP!

Lets face it, us in Western Australia are absolutely spoilt when it comes to scenery for our long drives. Heading to Jurien Bay I got to pass fields of sheep, kangaroo and cows, bush land, miles and miles of black boy trees, glimpses of the ocean, red dirt and the white sand dunes of Lancelin. I absolutely love driving along long road especially when my playlist is at it’s peak! Road trips are a lot of fun but there are things that everyone should bring with them and songs that should be on every road trip playlist. Here are some things you should definitely pack as well as my ten of my favourite songs to drive to.

Water and snacks. I also go for a museli bar and some chopped up fruit. Anything that I can reach for without too much trouble or mess.

Baby Wipes: incase there is mess

Tissues: just incase I need to blow my nose or wipe my face

Music: Until I bought my new car recently, I always had my old mix cd’s which I made when I was a baby teeny bopper. But now I need to use my iPod so I make sure its up to date with some absolutely amazing tunes.

Sunglasses: during long drives, the sun changes it position and its safer for everyone if you can see clearly. Always pack a good pair of sunnies to make sure you’re not squinting and you can relax a little bit.

Paper work, documents, manual and roadside emergency kit: always have all the appropriate documentation you need when you travel. Make sure your license is up to date and you have a spare tyre in your boot. An emergency kit can also be a lifesaver in an emergency.

Medical Kit: Accidents happen so its a good idea to always carry emergency medical equipment with you. These kits also come in super handy once you reach your destination so keep on in your boot at all times.

The Event Itself:

On the morning of the event, I woke early, did my stretches and started to get ready. Upon arriving at the cafe I was greeted with so much excitement! It really was heart warming. We had many locals come up and introduce themselves and tell us how much they loved the photos in the cafe. One of my favourite moments was when a Mother brought in her newborn, dressed in his swimwear to get his photo with us; it was really cute!
We really enjoyed our morning at the cafe, it gave us a chance to get to know the cafe owners and how much they loved our images. We got to hear their story and got shown around the cafe including a tour of family artefacts. It’s an honour to have our photos be side by side with images of loved ones and knick knacks from life’s adventures.

After our visit to the cafe we have several photoshoots around Jurien Bay. The weather was absolutely amazing so we hit the beach to enjoy some sunshine. We got to shoot with a Holden HR and amongst a private vintage motorcycle collection. It was fabulous!

It was a long drive home and I was really tired by the time I got to my drive way but I am already looking forward to going back to Jurien Bay.

Safe travels!
