The winged cat-eye is an iconic symbol of the pinup makeup and culture. It is a powerful image and has been around since ancient Egypt and is still popular today even amongst those who aren’t pinups. Winged eyeliner can be altered to suit most tastes by altering length, angle, thickness, colour and styling the wing. I find that everyone has their own personal preference; I like my liner dark, sharp and not overly dramatic. It takes a while to master winged eyeliner and even after all this time, I still have a day where I can’t get it to work out; I always try to tell girls, you don’t need eyeliner to be a pinup. It’s all about personal preference.
It’s rather exciting when there’s a new eyeliner product on the market; I’ve stuck with my two favorites and alternate as I use them up, but every now and then I like to try something new. As I was doing some Kbeauty stock up shopping from YesStyle, I came across the Tony Moly Mark Waterproof Eyeliner Gel (in colour 01 Black) and was really drawn to the packaging. Being a huge Harry Potter fan, I thought the fact that the gel and brush were shaped to look like an inkpot and quill to be super cute! SOLD!
Black Iron Oxide (CI 77499), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane, Ceresin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Talc, Silica Silylate, Caprylyl Methicone, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia (Macadamia) Seed Oil, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Propylene Carbonate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tocopherol
Tony Moly Mark Waterproof Gel Liner is an intense waterproof gel eyeliner that keeps vivid color and lasts for several hours. It claims to give you a precise application and natural-looking eyeliner with a matte finish. It claims to be intensly pigmented, crease-free and waterproof. Housed in a specially designed feather pen ink pot.
How to Use (according to official website)
1. Start in the middle of the upper eyelid and draw the line outward.
2. Connect the liner from the inner corner to the middle of your eye.
3. Retouch to create a smooth eye line, starting from the inner corner to the outer corner of your eye.
When I first tried out the eyeliner, I really liked how the gel pot had a little lip on the inside so I could wipe off excess product and have more control in how much gel I was about to apply. I used the ‘feather quill’ applicators that came with the eyeliner and found the thinner (the glossier pen) to be more effective as it was slightly thinner. The gel applies smoothly but it did dry rather quickly which meant that I had to work fast so it didn’t dry clumpy.
I tried out this eyeliner for a full week and can confirm it is waterproof and smudge proof. It didn’t budge all day and only came off after I washed my eyes with my oil cleanser and makeup remover.
When I applied the liner during the week, I used my normal sharp eyeliner angled brush and found that the gel applied much more precise and easier. This could just be a preference of mine and for those that like a more natural and smoked out eyeliner, this could definitely work for you. I like how the gel came with two brushes of different thicknesses but I think I may be really used to my own personal brush. The brushes will not go to waste though.
The price is really reasonable for a good quality product. I’m not sure how the other colours in the range fair as I’ve only tried the black, but this is a product I will continue to use and consider replacing after it runs out.
The Tony Moly Mark Waterproof Gel Eyeliner is a wonderful product and a high-quality eyeliner. The formula is thick, pigmented, smooth and dries matte and remains waterproof which is always a plus. I don’t have oily eyelids so perhaps test it out for yourself if this is a concern you may have.
I would recommend this eyeliner as it’s both aesthetically pleasing and easy to use.
If you’re wondering where to buy this eyeliner from, I recomend YESSTYLE. I’ve been shopping with them for years. Use code MONMON8 for an extra discount.
