Summer is officially over here in Australia and soon, we will be reaching for our cardigans and coats. Now is the time to start looking for some fabulous winter outfits and I have already found some new favourites from British Retro. I’m not one to wear a lot of wiggle or fitted dresses due to Endo belly issues but as soon as I saw this dress, I just knew I had to give it a go and throw caution to the wind.
The Tallulah Black Watch Tartan Pencil Dress from British Retro is a 50s inspired vintage reproduction pencil dress with a touch of Highland elegance. It has a traditional Black Watch tartan lapel collar with matching functional buttons & belt. She has ¾ length sleeves and a vent at the back of the skirt too. The dress is made out of Luxe Crepe 92% Polyester and 8% Elastane. It’s fully lined and made out of very high-quality fabrics and materials. The dress retails for £62 and is available in sizes 8-18; I ordered the size 10.
The Tallulah Black Watch Tartan Pencil dress fits and hugs the body in all the right places. I found the sleeves hit my arm in just the right spot for them to be flattering and still remain an air of elegance. As soon as I put this dress on, I felt like a fancy Parisian lady on her way to drop some serious coin at the high-end shopping streets. To fulfill this fantasy, I paired the dress with a vintage beret style black hat, detailed hand seamed stockings and some rather beautiful shoes from Diamond Heels.
The dress was very comfortable to wear and walk around in. Although the skirt was fitted, I was able to move around quite freely and not feel restricted. I really loved the tartan lapel collar and the matching buttons and belt. Although the tartan fabric was a dark blue/green combination, I felt that the darker combination really worked. I believe that this dress also comes in a red tartan but I always seem to reach for blue hues so this dress was no exception.
After recently discovering this brand, I truly believe that you will not be disappointed by the quality of their garments. British Retro garments are made exclusively in the UK in very small quantities so I recommend that if you have your eyes on an item to purchase quickly as you are at high risk of missing out. Also, keep in mind that as all garments are hand made, the sizes may vary slightly but I have personally had no issues so far. I will be releasing another review on a British Retro garment soon so make sure to stick around.
